The Escambia River is a 92-mile river of which 54 miles are found in Florida. The river has its headwaters in southern Alabama and is called the Conecuh in that state, changing names as it comes into Florida as it drains into Pensacola Bay.  The Escambia is the fourth largest river in Florida and harbors the richest assemblage of native North American freshwater fish of any Florida river with 85 native freshwater species.

Wildlife Opportunities...

Hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, birdwatching, horseback riding, nature study, cycling, Geo catching, stargazing, and more.

The northwest Florida water management District has acquired more than 212,000 acres of land in Florida Panhandle. Over the years, we’ve expanded public recreational opportunities on land purchased with public dollars.

We invite you to explore recreational opportunities on your public lambs. The recreation section of our website is packed with information on lands available for public use and access Dash as well as maps, descriptions, GPS coordinates and contact information.

Community Garden...

Conservation, sustainable local food, and environmental education are vital to the River Woods Ranch lifestyle, and we support a Community Gardening program at River Woods that aligns with these values. Gardeners are good and kind people. They look out for each others’ best interests, return anything borrowed, and respect each others’ gardens. They share their bounty, and enjoy building community through gardening. Happy gardening!
